The Traveller and the Moneylender

A traveller from India went on a journey to Africa. Eventually his funds ran short so he approached a moneylender and asked for a loan. Just then an Indian funeral procession happened to be passing in the street. The friends and relations of the deceased were weeping and wailing. The moneylender asked the traveller why his fellow countrymen were so upset. The Indian explained that whenever there was a death in an Indian family there was an enormous outpouring of grief.
The moneylender asked, “And what happens when there is a birth in the family?”
“Why then,” replied the traveller, “there is great a celebration and much rejoicing.”
“In that case,” replied the moneylender, “you are the sort of person who is happy to receive a gift but who is miserable when you have to return it. I certainly won’t be lending you anything!”
